The Religious Capital of Iran

After Tehran, Mashhad is the major city and the religious capital of Iran due to the holy shrine of the eighth Imam of the Shiites. Annually, lots of adherents of this religion from all over the world come to visit this holy place.

“Astan-e Quds Razavi” Museum is placed in the courtyard of Imam Reza’s shrine.

The tombs of “Ferdowsi”, a famous poet of Iran and also “Sheikh Bahai”, a well-known scholar of 10th and 11th century are located in Mashhad.

 

“Harounieh Dome” which is also called Haroun's Prison is amongst famous monuments of Mashhad because of its specific architecture.

“Kooh Sangi” is another tourist attraction which is consisted of two mountains with the view of city.

“Torghabeh” and “Shandiz” are two tourist sites around Mashhad. It is recommended you to visit and enjoy the good weather, eye-catching landscape and delicious foods served at restaurants of these places. Shandiz is famous for a dish called “Shishlik”.
